The ultimate guide to French Bulldogs in Paris. Air travel restrictions (BOAS), brachycephalic vet clinics, heat safety, and best flat-faced dog parks.
French Bulldogs ("Bouledogues Français") originated in 19th-century Paris, bred by lacemakers in the working-class Halles district. Today, they remain one of the most beloved breeds in the French capital. However, traveling with a brachycephalic (flat-faced) breed requires strict precautions.
Due to Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome, almost all major commercial airlines (Air France, Delta, British Airways, KLM) strictly prohibit French Bulldogs from traveling in the cargo hold. They may only fly in the passenger cabin if their total weight with the soft carrier does not exceed 8 kg (17.6 lbs). For heavier Frenchies, use LeShuttle (Eurotunnel) or private pet charter.
Paris summers frequently reach 32°C to 38°C (90°F to 100°F). Frenchies cannot cool themselves efficiently by panting. Walk exclusively before 9:00 AM and after 8:00 PM, avoid hot asphalt, carry a cooling vest, and never leave your Frenchie in a car under any circumstances.
