France has one of the most pet-friendly rail networks in the world. Whether you are riding high-speed TGVs, scenic regional TER trains, or low-cost Ouigo lines, here is exactly how to travel with your dog legally, safely, and comfortably.
SNCF simplified pet ticketing: whether your dog weighs 2 kg in a tote or 40 kg on a leash, a single €7 ticket per trip applies on TGV InOui and Intercités services (Ouigo charges €10 per pet).
Dogs allowed. Book your ticket online on SNCF Connect by clicking "Add a pet" before checkout. Ticket is €7. Maximum 2 pets per adult passenger.
Dogs allowed. You must add the "Animal option" during booking for €10 per pet per journey. Same carrier/muzzle guidelines apply as TGV.
Dogs allowed across all French regions (Normandy, Provence, Brittany, Occitanie, etc.). Small pets in bags travel free or for €7 depending on the regional council tariff. Large leashed dogs require a half-fare or €7 ticket.
Small dogs in bags/carriers (under 45 cm) travel for free on all Paris metro lines, buses, and trams. Medium/large dogs on leashes with muzzles are allowed only on RER commuter trains with a reduced-fare ticket, but are prohibited on standard city buses and metro cars.
Crucial exception : Eurostar passenger trains between London St Pancras and Paris Gare du Nord DO NOT allow pets, except certified guide and assistance dogs. If traveling from the UK with a pet dog, you must use LeShuttle (Eurotunnel) by car, or a dog-friendly cross-channel ferry (Calais, Dieppe, Le Havre).
Find fenced caniparcs and grassy areas within walking distance of Paris Gare de Lyon, Gare du Nord, Lyon Part-Dieu, Marseille Saint-Charles and more.
